New Jersey Deadly Motorcycle Crashes
Motorcyclists are much more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are nearly 27 times more likely to be killed in a crash. In New Jersey, there were 2,200 motorcycle accidents reported across the state in 2016. The Department of Law and Safety reported that 69 motorcyclists were killed in collisions that year.
If you have lost a loved one in New Jersey, the first thing that you should understand is who can bring forth a claim in our state — and when a wrongful death claim is appropriate. Under New Jersey’s wrongful death statute, a wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate when the negligence of the defendant — the at-fault party — was the direct cause of the decedent’s death. A New Jersey wrongful death claim is filed by the representative of the decedent and attempts to establish the defendant’s negligence.
